It's Been A Month...So Now What?

Hello Friends!

For those of you following this journey of mine, first of all thank-you! I really appreciate all the questions and encouragement I've been getting from people. You are the reason I'm pushing to keep going on this, and try new things!

So I've been using this Jawbone UP fitness band for just over a month now, and I have noticed some patterns, changes, and well cool things about it. I've told you about the tracking which helps keep me accountable, but I think the biggest thing is it has become my daily, and even hourly reminder that I need to get this done. I see it on my wrist, or it vibrates when I'm inactive telling me to get going. Yes there are other ways to do this without buying some fancy gadget, but honestly this fancy gadget has helped me the most out of any way I've tried so far.

I've had a lot of people comment saying wow you look so energized, or wow you look amazing lately. While I take all the compliments I can get, I know that I definitely have a lot of work to do. I also know that I've struggled quite a bit since I've started this journey of mine. I'll admit right now that this has been difficult, mainly because I've neglected my health for quite a few years while I've been in school. But I wanted to address some of the challenges I'm working on overcoming in this next month.

My Biggest Challenges:

Limiting My Caffeine: I cut out pop completely. I didn't drink much of it before so for me this was kind of easy. What hasn't been easy is the coffee part. I usually have coffee 4-5 times a week so pretty much every weekday. Now that I'm not working weekends anymore I don't require it Saturday or Sunday. But my goal has been to try and cut it out completely, or at least get it down to once a week. This has been super hard. With the way I'm eating I have way more energy so it's not even like I'm depending on it as an energy booster anymore. I think it's just the whole 'here I am at my desk, drinking my coffee' that throws me off if I don't have one. I've been trying to substitute it with tea, but I just love coffee, so I'm still working on this.

Not Binging On My Cravings: So I've cut out sugar pretty much completely. I'll have the odd cookie or chocolate here and there but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. My problem is, there's a lovely little time of the month where my body wants and craves everything bad. I always fall victim to my cravings which generally consist of Twizzlers Pull and Peels, some kind of chocolate, and believe it or not Strawberry Frutopia Juice. I was hoping that with my changed eating habits I would crave things less, but no. It's just the way my body is. So come around next time of the month, I plan to try and fill myself up with my favourite Shakeology with banana and peanut butter to see if that helps get rid of the cravings. I will keep you posted on that.

Keeping Those Hard Workouts Going: I've recently added two workouts into my daily routine. Some days this means I work out in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes, it means I do two back to back in the evening (those are a struggle). I try and wake up before work to get my second one in to keep me motivated throughout the day, but I'm not going to lie, sometimes waking up half an hour earlier so I can go for a run isn't all that appealing. What I also struggle with is my awful workout playlist. I pretty much haven't updated it in....well I don't know how long. But I am open for suggestions on new workout songs because I think having a different playlist for each day, or even just a different one for each workout I do will help change things up and keep me going.

I'll admit, I know this journey I'm on is going to be a work in progress. I mean I neglected my health, fitness and food wise, for the last five or so years. So obviously it's going to take some time to get back on track. But I have to say, the most motivating factors are my friends who are also taking their fitness journey to a new level. Alex, she's also blogging about her journey and I have to say she is the most inspiring person in my life right now and the reason I keep pushing every day. Sam Sommerfield, well she's the Rosie to my Sophia Grace and anytime I'm feeling like I'm stuck or down she always has encouraging words to keep me going and I gotta love her for that. And then my new 'mini team' of Megan and Bethany. While we keep saying we're trying to start a Piyo team, we definitely have lots of advice and encouraging words for each other. And even though these two are preparing for their weddings coming up, I'm using their power and passion to fuel my own.

There are many different resources I've tried and even throughout this first month I have changed a lot of things. Next week I'll talk about my daily routines, and what I do in a week to stay motivated!
