I know what you're thinking...summer is NOT over yet! Well sadly for me, it's coming to an end. Work is winding down, school supplies are getting organized, and I'm currently writing up a massive BTS wardrobe list.
It feels like just yesterday that we wrote our final PR exam and breathed a sigh of relief as we wouldn't have to worry about auto fails or deadlines for four whole months. The stress would be gone, it was time to kick back and enjoy summer. For myself, I was really excited. I work quite a bit in the summer (usually 50-60 hours a week). Whaaaat crazy right?? Not really. I look forward to summer because I have the BEST summer jobs in my opinion.
A lot of people in my program were gunning for those internships or communications positions over the summer. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do and I decided to keep my previous summer jobs for one last summer before I enter the 'real world.'
In a way, both of these jobs do somewhat relate to communications. I work at St Charles Country Club which is a members only course. It is one of the nicest courses in the city and has some of the nicest people as well. I love coming to work everyday and interacting with my co-workers and all of the members. I interact with them so much that they know my name, what I'm doing in school, and a LOT about my IPP. A lot of them keep asking me when they will be able to see my IPP or if I have business cards to give them before the end of summer (which I'm working on). It makes me happy to know that so many people genuinely care about what I do and want me to succeed.
My other job, my gosh I don't even know how to describe. It's fun, challenging, interactive, busy, awesome, and YOLO all in one. I work with people who have become my family because we have all been there for the last 7 years. Over these years, I have grown to know these people and learn so much about them. I love them all and I don't know where my life would be without them. This job is all about communicating with fans and I love that. I never ever hate that I have to be at the ball park even on my worst days because I know within about 10 minutes of being there, anything that was wrong will be better or forgotten.
So as this summer comes to a close, I'm kind of sad. This will be my last year working with the Winnipeg Goldeyes who I have been a proud member of their organization. This is the last summer before I enter the real world. And this is the last month of freedom before I spend 8 months worrying about filming, interviews, auto fails, resumes, and all the important things. I am excited and nervous all at the same time, but I know I have a great support system of family and friends who will be behind me all of the way.
The next two weeks will consist of IPP planning intensive (aka what am I going to do for the next 6 months), some filming, a filming course, working, and maybe getting in a few more tanning hours. I plan to expand my blog this year with the production of my show Janessa Meets Winnipeg (coming on Shaw TV) so be sure to stay tuned!
