So here's the deal…I did a segment for my show Janessa Meets Winnipeg with a nutritionist last week. And she said you always need a plan. So I thought, why not try for a week to eat on a plan….
Seems easy right?
WRONG. So so wrong.
Who would have thought eating healthy, spending a long time preparing meals everyday, and trying to go to school, work three jobs and keep sane would be hard? So I knew it was going to be a challenge but what I've endured so far has been extremely challenging, but also rewarding.
The first day I started, basically what I did was cut out excess sugar and fats. So I ate lots of fruit, protein, and a small amount of dairy. This day was super long for me. Especially being around people who were eating sugary things, drinking coffee and energy drinks and laughing because they had so much energy. I had none.
Day two…..was the day from ultimate hell. I was so grouchy the entire day, and I snapped at quite a few people. I felt so awful at the end of the day for how I treated people because of a choice that I made. I knew that the first few days of completely changing my diet were going to be rough, but I literally had to cry on my bus ride home because that's how bad I felt.
By the middle of the week, I felt a lot better. I was able to sleep in and sort of get myself back together again. I took time to make meals that were filling but could also taste good as well. This is how the end of my week is looking too. It's beginning to be a lot easier to fight temptations and eat things that are good AND healthy. Who knew such a thing existed?!
Okay, all this said, the only reason I'm doing this is so that I can be a little healthier. I am in my last three months of school and the stress is piled high right now. Going to the gym and eating healthy are about the only things I can control how much I do of each and I want them to be helpful in keeping my stress levels low.
So despite this new lifestyle change being a week from hell, I plan to continue it for as long as I can. I've learned that as long as you have a plan, nothing can go wrong. Sleep is great, and you should get it when you can. Also that protein shakes can actually be a really good thing and taste not so bad.
And when you think you can't do something, there's always someone there fighting for you and to tell you that you CAN.
